Don’t worry, this isn’t another ITF 🙂
I was bouncing around facebook one night and came across a treasure trove of old pictures of General Choi and ITF history. There was even a pic of when we hosted Gen. Choi for a seminar here in Phoenix in 1997.
The page is called Original Taekwon-Do ITF.
They describe their page as, “a resource page detailing rare and historical pictures and articles on the development of Tae Kwon Do. This page is open to all Tae Kwon Do practitioners.”
The pictures go far back in time even detailing Gen. Choi and some of the soldiers under his command.
“These Original Taekwon-Do Instructors in the Military began to diffuse Taekwon-Do around the world, starting in 1959. When the ITF was formed in 1966 they continued this dissemination.”
With this page, the creators hope to provide information that can help educate the masses about the true history of how, where and when Tae Kwon Do came to be, along with crediting the many who were instrumental in not only creating Korea’s greatest gift, but sharing it with the world.
“It is time to dispel the myth that Tae Kwon Do is 2,000 years old! Hopefully when better informed, Tae Kwon Do students will come to realize that we have much more in common, then that which separates us.
We encourage and indeed request, as well as need comments and other submissions to help explain the historical development. However under no circumstances will any information be allowed unless it conforms to the Tenets of Taekwon-Do!”
