When you think of a Taekwon-Do Hall of Fame I’m sure that there are certain names that may come to mind that you think should belong there. Most often they are people from your group or organization because that’s the community you’ve come up in.
To my surprise, the Taekwon-Do Hall of Fame truly is a Taekwon-Do Hall of Fame. Not an ITF or a WTF Hall of Fame, but an, all of Taekwon-Do Hall of fame.
“To provide recognition and awards to others who have significantly participated in, supported and/or contributed to the development, preservation, and growth of Tae Kwon Do (also known as Taekwondo and Taekwon-Do) as a traditional martial art and global sport”
How They Describe Themselves:
“The Taekwondo Hall of Fame® (TKDHOF) is an international organization of technical advisers who are themselves members of the World Taekwondo Federation (WTF), International Taekwon-Do Federation (ITF), World TaeKwon-Do Alliance (WTA), and other major taekwondo entities.
The technical advisers are responsible for identifying, recognizing and honoring persons and groups who have significantly contributed to the development, growth, and advancement of taekwondo as a martial art and global sport.”
The Taekwondo Hall of Fame® headquarters is located in New Jersey, USA with technical advisory staff also located in Korea, Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Afghanistan, Russia, Ireland, India and elsewhere.
When I went their website I was truly impressed with their ability to include all of Taekwon-Do. For you ITF’ers you’ll recognize Gen. Choi, GM Rhee, Ki Ha, David Kerr and more. And yes, there are also people who aren’t in your organization who are still making a difference and achieving great accomplishments in the name of Taekwon-Do.
Every two years the Taekwon-Do Hall of Fame holds an induction ceremony somewhere in the world. Most recently in Las Vegas, NV USA in October of 2013.
